Police clearance certificate from your country of citizenship and from every country where you've resided more than 6 months in the past 5 years. Each must be apostilled per the Hague Convention.
Each apostilled criminal record translated into Spanish by a translator on the official MAEUEC sworn-translators list.
Original medical certificate stating that the applicant has no diseases that would have major consequences under the International Health Regulations 2005. Issued in the country of residence.
Private health insurance valid in Spain to cover the entry-visa period until RETA registration grants access to the public health system.
Rental contract, escritura (property deed), or signed hosting declaration covering the initial residence in Spain.
Sworn translation into Spanish of any non-Spanish supporting documents (diplomas, contracts, certificates, etc.) by a translator on the MAEUEC official list.
Pay both administrative fees: Tasa 790 código 062 (work authorization) and Tasa 790 código 052 (residence authorization). Generated and paid via the electronic headquarters of public administrations.
Pay the consular national-visa fee at the Spanish consulate covering your country of residence. Standard rate is around €80 but varies by consulate and reciprocity.
Book and attend your appointment at the Spanish consulate. Submit form EX-07, the National Visa Application, originals of all supporting documents, and provide biometrics.
Once approved, the consulate stamps a 1-year residence-and-work visa in your passport. Book travel to Spain.
Register with the Tesorería General de la Seguridad Social under RETA. Registration must occur on or before the start of activity (and no later than 60 days afterward) to avoid surcharges.
File the *modelo 036* census declaration with the Agencia Tributaria (AEAT) and register your IAE *epígrafe* (activity code). Establishes you in the AEAT register of entrepreneurs and professionals and triggers VAT (IVA) and IRPF obligations.
Apply at the Oficina de Extranjería or Comisaría de Policía in the province where authorization was processed. The 1-month window after entering Spain on a type-D visa is strictly enforced.
Attend the assigned police station for fingerprinting and the photo capture used to manufacture the card. Pay the TIE issuance fee (Tasa 790-012).
Pick up the physical Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero at the assigned police station. The TIE serves as your residence-and-work proof for the duration of the authorization.
