Signed declaration in the format required by the PPA confirming that your job does not depend on location and that you can perform work duties from a distance using telecommunications technology. Used together with the long-stay (D) visa application form.
Documentation proving one of: (a) an active employment contract with a company registered outside Estonia, (b) shareholding in a company registered outside Estonia that you continue to operate, or (c) service contracts with clients mainly based outside Estonia. Income source must be foreign.
Signed statement from your employer, your foreign-registered company, or your clients confirming that you will continue to work for them remotely from Estonia and that the work is performed for entities outside Estonia. The PPA's published guidance specifies exact framing.
Payslips, invoices, or equivalent income statements showing consistent monthly gross income at or above €4,500 for the 6 months prior to application. The 6-month window is the published floor.
Bank statements covering the 6 months prior to application showing income deposits at or above €4,500/mo and an average balance consistent with the declared income.
Police clearance / criminal background check from your country of citizenship and from every country where you've resided more than 1 year in the last 5 years. Each must be apostilled per the Hague Convention. Estonia accepts records in English; otherwise a sworn translation is required.
Schengen-compliant health insurance covering Estonia and the wider Schengen area for the full visa period, with at least €30,000 medical coverage and no waiting period. Travel-only insurance is not accepted.
Lease agreement, Estonian property-ownership document, or notarized hosting declaration covering your accommodation in Estonia for the visa period.
Book and attend your appointment at the Estonian embassy / consulate that handles your country, or at a VFS Global centre where Estonia uses one. Submit all originals and provide biometrics.
Pay the long-stay (D) visa state fee at the appointment. €120 for adults; €60 for children aged 6–11. Children under 6 are typically exempt — confirm with the consulate.
Estonia's statutory decision target is 30 days from the day the long-stay (D) visa application is lodged. Once approved, the long-stay visa is stamped in your passport. Book your flight to Estonia.
Register your place of residence in the Estonian Population Register (rahvastikuregister) with the local municipality after you arrive. Required for tax, banking, and any in-country administrative steps.
