Submit the temporary stay application — Form 1a — through the MUP digitalnomadscroatia.mup.hr portal. Visa-free entrants in Croatia can also submit Form 1a in person at a local police administration; visa-required nationals lodge Form 1a at a Croatian embassy / consulate alongside the Type D visa request.
Current employment contract or service contracts confirming your income source. Aliens Act art. 86 requires the employer / own company to be NOT registered in Croatia.
Signed letter from your employer (or each client, for freelancers) attesting that the work is performed remotely using communication technology AND that the employer / clients are not registered in Croatia and not provided services in Croatia. Aliens Act art. 86 framing.
Payslips or invoices showing consistent monthly income at or above 2.5× Croatia's average monthly net salary (DZS Feb 2026 figure: €1,527 → threshold €3,622.50). Lump-sum savings of ≈€43,470 (12-mo) or ≈€65,205 (18-mo) is an accepted alternative.
Bank statements covering the last 6 months showing income deposits OR a liquid balance ≥ €43,470 (12-month stay) / €65,205 (full 18-month stay) as the lump-sum alternative to monthly income proof.
Police clearance certificate from your country of citizenship and from every country where you've resided more than 1 year in the past 5 years. Each must be apostilled per the Hague Convention. MUP typically accepts certificates issued within the last 6 months.
Each apostilled criminal record translated into Croatian by a court-registered sworn translator (sudski tumač).
Private long-term residency health insurance valid in Croatia for the entire permit period. MUP rejects standard travel-insurance policies.
At application: a temporary address (hotel / Airbnb / hostel confirmation) is accepted by MUP. After grant, a notarized long-term rental contract, landlord declaration, or property deed (extract from the land registry) is required for address registration.
Visa-required nationals must lodge a Type D long-stay visa application at a Croatian embassy / consulate covering their country of residence, alongside the DNV temporary-stay request. Visa-free entrants (US, UK, Canada, Australia, NZ, Japan, etc.) skip this step and apply directly at a police administration after entry.
Wire the €46.45 grant fee + €9.29 administrative fee to the MUP IBAN HR1210010051863000160, model HR64, reference 5002-713-{your OIB}. Receipts are uploaded to the digital-nomad portal alongside the rest of your application bundle.
Within 3 days of entering Croatia, submit Form Obrazac 8a + accommodation proof at the local police station to register your temporary residence. This is a separate step from the residence-permit grant; missing it can lead to revocation.
Get your OIB — the Croatian personal ID / tax number — at the local Porezna uprava office. Required for renting, opening a bank account, and the MUP fee payment reference. Can be obtained remotely via a Croatian fiscal representative before arrival.
Attend your appointment at the local police administration to submit biometrics (fingerprints + signature) for the residence card. Required for all DNV applicants regardless of whether they applied online or via consulate.
Pay the biometric residence card fee — €31.85 standard (≈3 weeks delivery) or €59.73 accelerated (≈1 week). The card is the official proof of legal stay and is presented for in-Schengen travel.
